Wonderfully Made Advocacy and Consulting

I am so excited to be here on the first day of Down Syndrome Awareness Month 2024, ready to partner with you and begin building a more inclusive community for all. This month, look for a series of posts celebrating all the wonderful, unique, and fascinating things characteristic of Down Syndrome.
Today, I want to share three of the most important things I have learned having a child with Down Syndrome:
1) It's OK to be excited to meet new people. There are days when it takes us 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot inside a store because Mia is so happy to meet everyone around us. I have heard so many beautiful stories and connected with new people because she has taught me to slow down and say hi.
2) Learning new skills can be challenging, but we can overcome any challenge with some encouragement, help, and the right tools. The way Mia does things might not be the "right" way, but she gets the job done, and that is 100% OK.
3) It's OK to be so happy you dance; the people you want around you will dance right along with you. Our days are filled with so much joy and impromptu dance parties because our food is yummy, someone says hi, we got our favorite toy, or just because we hear music in the rhythm of life.
We truly are the Lucky Few.
